01	Powering invoices with PayPal Last year, service providers and small-to-medium businesses sent over 3.7 billion invoices to each other. 65% of those payments were still made with old-fashioned fax or paper checks. PayPal, with its secure, global payments platform, is now offering developers access to its newest invoicing APIs to move away from paper and move toward instant payments. We’ll discuss how these new start-to-finish services can be integrated in numerous innovative ways with existing applications such as time-tracking, project management, and customer support on both mobile and web platforms.	Srilakshmi Mudigere Srilakshmi Mudigere Srilakshmi leads PayPal’s new invoicing platform. “This is the year PayPal moves way beyond just payments,” she explains. With this new platform offering, developers, integrators, and business solution providers can achieve one-stop invoice-to-payment integration with PayPal products. Sri says: “As a geek technologist, I’m passionate about bringing technology to products that help businesses.” She was also responsible for building the Global Technology Services organization and PayPal’s Asia expansion. She loves to support entrepreneurs by volunteering in Silicon Valley, and enjoys Indian classical music and dance. Sri holds degrees from both Bangalore University as well as Santa Clara University. Traxian makes integration easy, both within and between organizations, eliminating data entry of invoices, payments and orders.Traxian is used by leading small business solution providers to seamlessly integrate their solutions with QuickBooks, reaching a user community of over 2.5 million. Small businesses use Traxian’s QuickBooks integration technology to connect with invoicing solutions, such as Paypal and FreshBooks, commerce solutions such as Magento, and B2B networks such as Ariba.Traxian makes “adding an app” to connect business systems as easy as adding an app on Facebook to connect with friends. The company’s pioneering “Intercloud” technology leverages third parties’ Cloud APIs so that data just syncs without manual effort. Close John Weaver John Weaver John Weaver is the founder and CEO of Varsity Software, Inc. (www.varsitysoftware.com), a start-up software development company based in Princeton, New Jersey. The company’s first product is a versatile social event management platform called Calyndar (www.calyndar.com). Over the past two decades, John has held many diverse leadership roles in business and technology. He was a co-founder of Reunion Technologies, a software company that developed affinity and fund-raising applications for top colleges and universities across the country, including Princeton, Harvard, Yale, Columbia & NYU. He worked as the Vice President of Information Technology at Time Warner’s Elektra Records during Sylvia Rhone’s presidency of the label and as Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) - a national non-profit that has invested more than $7 billion into community-based development corporations. John received his MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and is a magna cum laude graduate of Princeton University. Close Jon Jessup Jon Jessup Jon is passionate about eCommerce innovation and leveraging cloud technologies to solve real-world business problems. As the CEO and founder of Cloud Conversion, Jon is tasked with helping online retailers navigate the complex eCommerce eco-system and operational challenges that most growing companies face. In 2009, Jon developed Cloud Conversion's eCommSource solution, which won the 2010 eBay Star Developer award for it's integration with Salesforce.com to help eBay sellers streamline their customer service and support operations. He then developed CloudGento, which combines the power of Magento with Salesforce.com CRM and is used by many retailers running Magneto eCommerce sites. Jon also led the development of Cloud Conversion's latest solution, ReturnsCloud, an enterprise RMA system designed specifically for eCommerce and integrated with Salesforce, Magento, eBay, PayPal, UPS and more. Jon is an alum of Oracle and Infopia, where he learned the in's and out's of enterprise software and eCommerce respectively. He graduated Cum Laude from Princeton University in 2001, with a Bachelor of Science and Engineering degree in Computer Science. He enjoys skiing the perfectly manicured slopes of Deer Valley, powder at Alta and competing in local ski races in Park City, UT. Close
02	Adaptive APIs meet the real world Actual case studies of developers using Adaptive Accounts and Adaptive Payments to make real, live money. These developers went beyond simple checkout. Here is how they used our APIs to remove the barriers to setting up accounts, initiating pre-approvals, and creating chained payments.	John Doppke John Doppke John gets to work on things most of us have never seen before. Some of his projects involve secretive, behind-the-scenes, infrastructure stuff to keep PayPal humming smoothly. Other projects are strictly high-clearance and hush-hush: Because of John, mere money will someday simply be just one option to consider. Kids, merchants, and any of us dealing with conversion rates during a tough economy will benefit. When he was a kid himself, John drew on the backs of old program listings his mom brought home from her job as a programmer at IBM. He became a programmer and architect for about eight years before moving to the business side, but “I can’t give up technology,” says John. Close Marc Elbirt Marc Elbirt By age 10, Marc was a junior programmer from Toronto who idolized “the Woz.” He delights in the positive side of hacking, as “finding a way to do somethingthat nobody thought could be done.” Marc’s yearning for sunshine brought him to California, where he flipped from code guru to business geek. “I like to bend and build things,” explains Marc, “and create a new business.” It’s why he relishes his responsibility for PayPal’s Adaptive Accounts, “reshaping the end product around what we can accomplish; by reconfiguring things that already exist.” Marc’s favorite sports are mountain biking, effective marketing and communication, and ski-boxing. Prior to his role at Zipments, Garrick spent five years as CEO of Crayon Interface, a company he co-founded in 2005. Crayon Interface developed several web and mobile applications for companies in the consumer electronics, automotive, energy management, residential security and logistics industries. Crayon Interface was the recipient of several industry innovation awards and in 2007 was one of “Michigan’s Top 50 Companies to Watch.” Crayon Interface’s mobile applications were featured in three separate iPhone commercials. Prior to Crayon Interface, Garrick worked at Johnson Controls where he held positions in both finance and business development. At JCI, Garrick helped expand the company’s Asian automotive business unit to sales in excess of $1 billion annually. 03	PayPal products for merchants PayPal offers more payment options than simply the PayPal method of payment. We will go over how PayPal’s easy-to-integrate services accept credit cards directly on a website, either with PCI-compliant hosted templates or a payments page fully customized with flexible APIs. We’ll also show how existing merchant accounts can even connect using PayPal’s Payflow Gateway.	Dan Garcia Dan Garcia About ten years ago, Dan was invited to join a friend’s start-up and make millions of dollars. Instead, he has since felt the flow of almost a $1 trillion by managing PayPal’s products for merchants, like Express Checkout, Website Payments Pro, and Virtual Terminal. Dan is a local guy; he grew up right in Oakland. When he’s not keeping up with the fast pace of PayPal Payments, he satisfies his curiosity by traveling and hiking. Close Todd Sieber Todd Sieber During the roller-coaster ride of the dot.com years, what did Todd sell on the website he built? Wedding gowns! “I’ve been on the other side of the fence,” says Todd. “I actually was the guy that we’re building the product for.” That product is a gateway that allows merchants to take payments, particularly in a BYOB fashion. In this case, BYOB stands for “bring your own bank”—it’s what merchants who already have traditional banking relationships want. Todd is there to provide that and more. “We’re very merchant driven, and this is kind of a living, breathing product that’s never done.” It’s the same sort of respect he shows his SCUBA students when he shows them kelp forests in the “tough” dive areas around Monterey Bay: “It keeps your skills sharp.” Close
04	PayPal under the hood This is a peek at PayPal’s inner workings. Take a broad look at the technologies and foundations of the PayPal system, and the history and evolution behind its design. Take a tour of PayPal’s service-oriented architecture, the techniques the engineering team uses to achieve such secure financial transaction processing, and how PayPal innovates at scale.	Chris McGraw Chris McGraw Where do you start if you want to become the guy who steers the core technology of a payments giant? In Chris’s case, “I enjoyed banging on a keyboard as a little kid.” He claims he was “just a typical dweeby teenager sitting in front a computer, and then I found out that coding is the greatest thing ever.” Staying neck-deep in the PayPal codebase helps Chris guide product development, and make sure the PayPal site scales with exploding demand and volume. It’s an impressive undertaking: “What we’re building now will support infinite growth of the business.” Chris majored in both art history and computer systems engineering; he can build computer-based art, kill opponents at ping pong, and juggle any three small items. 05	Security & fraud: How to (NOT!) shop online for free Yes, it happened: Just this year, researchers found flaws in how merchants integrated with a variety of payment systems—including PayPal!—and they were able to purchase items for free or reduced-cost. How to integrate securely with PayPal and avoid expensive mistakes.	Bil Corry Bil Corry Bil Corry is so focused on security that he has cultivated a “useful case of paranoia.” He says the condition helps him make sure projects are correctly engineered and information is safely transferred. His curiosity and puzzle-solving drive have led him to join his school’s sociology club, investigate women’s prison conditions, and found the BayThreat Security Conference—along with chapters of N.O.W. and a national fraternity. He has a degree in computer science—but with a minor in women’s studies. Bil was a web developer since 1995, when the term was hardly known, and has followed “people-hacking” as a discipline ever since. Close Harry Xue Harry Xue Since 2005, Harry has been turning non-customers into PayPal customers, and helping those customers integrate PayPal’s services. He identifies needs, recommends products, solves technical problems, and activates the magic. He started as a software engineer, doing custom development and business software—all skills he taught himself. In school, he didn’t study computer science, but math and finance. “Find an engineer who subscribes to the Financial Times and Business Week!” challenges Harry, pulling out both. When he goes on vacation, he cuts himself off from the telephone and the internet and goes backpacking for a week at a time, “sleeping under the trees and watching the stars go by.” Close
06	Checkout: anytime, anywhere Checkout is the critical final step, and nothing should mar the flow for digital or physical goods, split payments, or mobile. Our use cases will start from the beginning order process, move on to authorization, and then capture, void, refund, and order completion steps.	Paulam Chang Paulam Chang With three languages and continental cultures under her belt (Asian, Latin, and American) Paulam was certain she would conquer computer sciences around the world. It took seven years in Venezuela as a developer and consultant before she landed a spot with PayPal’s Omaha-based technical support team in 2004. Three years later, she was managing a highly-technical Level 3 Merchant Technical Support team working directly with Site Ops to ensure prompt resolutions to system blurbs. Now, Paulam’s days are filled managing an Integration Engineering team in charge of providing technical assistance to developers, merchants, and partners. She enjoys cooking and avoids any exercise except for ballroom dancing. Close Matthew Cole Matthew Cole Matt was the little smarty-pants 4^th grader you saw copying BASIC programs out of books and into his school’s Apple II. He put himself through school while working for Office Depot, and after that, his programming and customer service skills made him a natural for PayPal. Matt is based in Nebraska, where he works on the Professional Services team, helping merchants integrate PayPal’s checkout products like Website Payments Standard, Express Checkout, Website Payments Pro, Payflow, and Adaptive Payments. He enjoys it almost as much as a satisfying round of Killer Bunnies when he’s indoors, and archery when he gets to step outside. Close
07	Payments for digital goods Selling digital goods is different than selling physical goods—from the business models that need to be supported to how fraud should be managed. In this session, we’ll help you understand which PayPal product is most appropriate for your business model, how to integrate with PayPal’s payment products for digital goods, including Zong, and how to best configure PayPal for your risk profile.	Janette Chung Janette Chung Janette takes her role as an advocate for digital goods providers and consumers very seriously; she aspires to have PayPal simplify their digital lives. She has built complex products during her five years at PayPal: the checkout solution for travel agencies, for example, and PayPal’s first in-context checkout and micropayment solution. Janette has worked on the internet almost since it was created: she created prototypes of an online pizza ordering system and a bus location notification system back in 1995, years before these existed in the real world. When she is not building products, she is running, baking, or checking out new apps. Close Michael Suarez Michael Suarez Michael enjoys being a part of cross-functional teams that launch products such as Website Payments Pro Payflow Edition, and PayPal for Digital Goods. During his five years at PayPal, he has worked with companies such as Sony Style, MTV, Mozilla, and The New York Times. He says his mission is to work with customers to ensure the right products are being integrated based on the needs of each customer—and that he can support any integration that comes his way. As one of the first Sales Engineers for PayPal, Michael helped develop a mentoring program for other Sales Engineers to develop the team and, ultimately, help PayPal “conquer the world!” Close Fang Lin Fang Lin By day, Fang oversees products like the first one-touch mobile payments solution for the mobile platform. By night, she becomes a UI engineer and key merchant integration consultant—she can't give up her love for programming user interfaces. Fang was responsible for coding Zong's web payment UI, the zong.com site, and various CSS styles used by Zong merchants. Prior to joining Zong, Fang worked as a Web 2.0 consultant for Cisco Systems. Earlier in her career, she co-founded a location-based mobile service company, Moblast Inc., and even worked for NASA for three years. Fang is such a foodie she's practically memorized episodes of Iron Chef; luckily, she also runs marathons. Close
